Today has been a great day of things working out just right. BK and I have been working on figuring out dynamics and all the joyous things that are entailed when two families join. It's no joke and thankfully we are so blessed in the fact that our kids all love each other and get along so well. They all are well behaved and amazing and when they are together the house is filled with laughter, giggles, playing, swimming, and joy. Pure and amazing joy. BK and I look at each other in those moments and just stare at each other with peace and love in our eyes, as if to say "who would have thought this would be so beautiful?".
The last two weeks have been very full and crazy. His parents came to town, his youngest daughter had a birthday, my son had a birthday, his son graduated high school, his other son was showing his pig in the local fair and so we had parties and barbeques and fair time on top of the birthday's for the kids, throw in two dogs and all the extra family members on both sides, including that of his ex wife and it was busy. But so incredibly enjoyable and natural. Watching his three older kids interact with his ex-wife and the way she interacted with my kids while they all played with kittens and she graciously opened her home up to us all so everyone could celebrate the graduate made me smile. I'll never have this with my ex most likely, despite me having tried for two years. The unhealthy boundaries and the borderline in him will never allow it and I've come to terms with it. But it is so refreshing and speaks highly of who BK and his ex are and explains why their kids are simply amazing, well rounded, grounded and beautiful souls. I was humbled and thankful that night and the kids all had a blast.
I will tell you, seven kids means you are going NONSTOP. But somehow we ebb and flow off each other and it works. We divide and conquer and because we each give so freely to the kids and each other, nobody feels as if they are doing the majority of the work. Nor does it feel like work. The kids all seem to feel happy, adjusted and content with each of us as one of his sons will come up and randomly talk to me about something we are suppose to do the next day or as his youngest will walk up to me and reach up her arms and latch onto my legs and then give me smooches or one of my daughter's will ask BK for help with something on the tv or with swimming. Seeing his parents just sit back and watch us made me a bit nervous at first, but what you see is what you get with me. I've always been that way, and their acceptance and interaction also was so very enjoyable. Seeing his family interact and how they love each other, God has answered more prayers than just providing a man to love me and be loved by me. His family is amazing and wonderful and I really enjoy and adore each of them.
And somehow it works for us and we love every moment of the chaos and action. We find the moments between us where we are in the pool at the end of the night, listening to the monitor with the heavy breathing of kids on the other end, and we chat and talk about our future. We sit in a bubble bath and the intimacy between us crowds out anything in the room but love and peace and contentment as we go over the day we've successfully conquered as a team. And as he looks at me in the eyes and then I lay my head on his strong chest, I thank him for who he is and for this wonderful life we have decided to undertake together. And as more things fall into place and today we got more news about something truly spectacular and God sent, we once again sigh a breath of thankfulness and we are grateful. Each and every part of this relationship has been little bits of pieces of answered prayers, healed hearts and two hard working deserving people loving each other entirely and without fault. And as we grab each other's hands thankful for another piece of the puzzle falling into place we grin and admit, sometimes the stars simply do just align.
