9 days

Koda has now been with us for 9 days and we are amazed over such a short period of time he has already become a part of our family. He is a natural fit, we don't find ourselves wondering what to do with him or how to work with him. It just slides into place, and is a nice reassurance that we did the right thing by adopting him.

He is potty trained (i think its safe to say). He hasn't had any accidents since his first one (due to DH not reading Koda's signs properly) and now goes and sits at the back door to let us know its time for him to take care of business. If we don't notice, he will quietly bark and then out the door we go and he never ceases to amaze us that he really does have to go potty! He loves his crate, will take about 4 naps a day with it and also goes in it as he pleases (usually to get a break from the girls). We are walking him (i say we, but in reality its DH) once a day long enough to help him exert some energy. We are looking forward to the trainer coming in a few weeks to train him, so that I can give him off leash time in the back yard. And tomorrow he gets his stitched removed (from getting neutered) and we can FINALLY give the smelly guy a bath. It really is a good thing I'm so in love with him, never having owned an indoor dog I'm having a bit of a time getting use tot he new smells of a puppy. Sadly, i don't know how long it will take for his recovery from getting his dewclaws removed, so most likely it will be another period of time where we wont be allowed to bathe him again. He's a great puppy and everyone comments on how well behaved and low key he is and how amazing it is that he's already 'trained' so well. He's obeying so much better, gets out of the kitchen, sits, and responds to NO when we tell him. The girls are doing AWESOME with taking the command with him and Lyssa is growing less fearful of him as we bump up her confidence (she naturally has a more soft/fearful nature). The only downfall is that he wakes up at 6:30 every morning to eat and go potty. I should count my blessings because he sleeps through the night, but I am dreading once DH ships off that this will become my job and i am still not a morning person. Oh well, guess ill start going to sleep earlier he's worth it!

My sis and niece came over today, a nice visit as they live about 2 hours away and we don't get to spend as much time with them since her kids are teens and have crazy schedules. Makes me realize how much i miss my nieces and nephew being young. But its always good to catch up, even if for an hour with 2 crazy kids climbing all over us.
