Now that the playroom is mostly finished, its time to move on to getting a stronger routine settled in. It's hard at times with a MIL who tries to butt in or randomly 'play' with the girls only to mentally wander off into space and completely ignore the girls, but sitting like a bump on a log. So, i've decided to start educating myself about homeschooling. It wont be longterm, only for preschool and to supplement Lyssa's kindergarten cirriculum.
Lyss is thriving in Kgarten, adores her teacher and is blossoming with her friends. But her attention span is waning and she is getting more and more easily distracted, so its time for mom to learn about her ticks and tocks and see how we can better help her to focus. I also want to instill in her what drew me to Waldorf, the love of learning because its fun, challenging and enriching. I dont want her to become like many a child, myself included. Reciting and spouting things off mindlessly because they need to get that A. Instead i want them to challenge themselves and learn because it enthralls their mind and souls!
So, i have slowly started the search and found dozens of sites to learn from. It's very overwhelming. I am not cut out to be a teacher. My type a personality leads me to easily getting frustrated when things dont go just so. Having a child who is matched with my own ability to easily get distracted will prove to be interesting and challenging im sure. My own attention span is probably not much more then that of a 10 year old, so we will have to fill the void with a few 'unschooling' methods i think. I believe that Kiki, will just thrive. . . any and all attention devoted to her has proven time and again to calm and soothe her soul.
So this is my challenge for '09, to educate myself to instill fun and learning in our home. As the sign says on our playroom wall, Play Laugh & Learn. This is what i want it to be about. And hopefully i can learn myself.
