Everyone has them in their lives. Thankfully, i have no issue detaching and pretending that the one person who acts as if they are smarter, funnier, richer then you, ie God's gift to the world. . .doesn't exist. It's not hard really. Growing up with 5 sisters, you learned how to retreat into the solace of your room and delve into a fantasyland of books, writing or thoughts. Often times i catch myself doing so with the family i married into.
I look at my dh and wonder, how the heck he arose from the literal ashes of his family. He's not perfect, he sucks at multitasking and at times I'd rather send him in for an update. But in all reality, he is the absolute best father and husband i ever could have looked for. He is eager to please, sweet, sensitive, can't lie worth a darn, the hardest worker i've ever known besides my father, and devotes his life to his children. Having grown up with a bio father who thought it better to not raise me, having a hands on dad meant more then the world to me. And then i look at his family. And wonder why in the world he's related to a person who acts as if he is taking on the world and doing the family all the favors?
I'm particularly referring to the MIL situation. Many know that MIL stands for mother in law, but sadly that is not the case for us. It stands for monster in law here. And she has moved in with us. She's been with us for about 4 months and its been filled with stress, strife, lieing, tantrums (yes on the behalf of the 63 year old woman, not us) and a brother pretending as if he is taking on the brunt of it by trying to intermediate. Which, i find incredibly amusing. . . Last i checked, it was my dh who has been carting the MIL to appointments, to the ER after she refuses to care for herself and her sugars crash and her kidney putters out, who fills out all her paperwork for insurance and benefits, who listens to her constant depressing words, and who also puts up with a wife less then happy with the entire situation. The brother gets lucky with taking her on for a few hours every few weeks on a saturday and gets pissed he has to listen to her kvetch about her living situation. Which amazes me considering he has the steady job, with the 3000 square foot home, with 2 teens and a stable marraige. But basically told dh he could care less what happens to his mother.
So she got bestowed on us, after the MIL lost her home to foreclosure and her eyesight from letting diabetes run rampant. What was a family to do? Allow her to stay homeless in KY? My guilt spread to dh and we decided we'd take her on, not knowing she was a master manipulator, incapable of taking care of herself and would turn our home into a foodless nursing home.
Anywyho. . . no real thought process here. Just annoyance that one pretends to be something they arent to all those around them. We don't want any credit or accolades for 'doing the right thing', but the whole hypocrisy of a certain christian sibling just gets old after 8 years. Suppose they will just go right back on 'ignore' in my head. It's much like putting someone on ignore in a forum that you just grow tired of watching their babbling. Click a little button and they seem to magically disappear.
